Established in 1976, Habitat for Humanity of San Antonio & Guadalupe Valley channels its Christian mission of “putting God’s love into action” by collaborating with dedicated families and volunteers to construct safe, affordable housing and foster strong, vibrant communities. Homes typically span 3 to 4 bedrooms at around 1,290 square feet, designed with durability, efficiency, and long-term sustainability in mind.

Their transformative model relies on “sweat equity,” where partner families contribute at least 300 hours of labor—alongside completing homeowner education and qualifying based on financial need and readiness—to earn interest-free mortgages.  With more than 1,400 homes built to date, they are well on track to add 67 more in 2025, meeting growing demand across the region.

This affiliate also operates a Habitat Home Center, a home improvement store where new and gently used building materials, furniture, and decor are donated, resold, and used to support housing initiatives—all while reducing waste and strengthening community ties.

A recent highlight is the Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Tribute Home, one of 16 new houses dedicated in the Rancho Carlota subdivision. Built in honor of the Carters’ longstanding commitment to Habitat, this home now shelters a young immigrant family seeking a stable future, symbolizing both legacy and hope. Education, emotional well-being, and community-building are integral to every build, with student interns from UTSA and local high schools contributing valuable skills and leadership.

Through the combined efforts of volunteers, sponsors, student interns, and loyal supporters, Habitat for Humanity of San Antonio & Guadalupe Valley continues to tackle the affordable housing crisis—helping families gain stability, children thrive academically, and communities flourish.
