Founded in 1980 by Scott and Gayla Congdon, Amor Ministries exists because children—loved by their parents—were being sent to orphanages simply due to a lack of adequate shelter. Since then, Amor has remained committed to keeping families together by building homes with local leaders and genuinely partnering with families in need across Mexico and around the world.

At the heart of their work is the mission: Bring people together to manifest Jesus. Through immersive, faith-driven mission trips, groups, families, and individual volunteers build homes—more than just shelters—symbolizing stability and dignity for those they serve.

These are not typical volunteer trips—in just a few days, participants help construct a home alongside a family with skill and heart, while forging real relationships with local pastors and household members. Families gain the ability to spend less on rent and more on their children’s future, and trip participants often return changed themselves.

With over 45 years of impact, Amor has facilitated mission trips for hundreds of thousands of participants and helped build nearly 20,000 homes across Baja California, Puerto Peñasco, and the Yucatán Peninsula—transforming communities one family at a time.
